According to Politico, Hungary aims to unite with Czechia and Slovakia to form an anti-Ukraine political bloc within the European Union.
While a formal alliance is still far off, if the project of Viktor Orbán, Robert Fico, and Andrej Babiš takes shape, it could seriously undermine EU unity and complicate both financial and military aid to Ukraine.
In essence, it’s an attempt to create a “Budapest — Prague — Bratislava axis” that promotes pro-Russian interests under the banner of “defending national sovereignty.”
However, Hungary’s next parliamentary elections are set for April 3, 2026. Current polls show the opposition in the lead — meaning Orbán’s rule might soon come to an end.
